While the reason for me to be home full time at the moment is health related, I have discovered a few things about myself that have surprised me. Despite all of the modern conveniences, I prefer the bare basics. Yes I spend time on my computer and yes I like to watch TV, but I love to harvest fruits and veggies out of my garden. The hard work put in to it pays off in ways I could never imagine.

Go Green Lunch Box
I have always sent school lunches with the kids to school. First of all I can't afford school lunches. Secondly have you seen what they give the kids for lunch? My child would not be happy with two ravioli (2 in diameter) a few leaves of salad, a banana and milk. Most of the time the kids will not even eat what is given. And let's not even get in to how unhealthy most of that food is! Here is a great solution Go Green Lunch Box.

Too Many Ads!
I know I may burn many bridges writing this post not to mention I may even get an eye full. I am OK with that. There are just some things that need to be said and here goes. While entering giveaways and blog hopping I have encountered many blogs that just need to stop what they are doing! I understand that you hope to earn some extra if not a full income from your blog. That is perfectly fine, nothing wrong with that at all. But there is a point when it gets to be too much.
Disney/Pixar's Brave Movie Review
First let me tell you that I have been waiting to see this movie since the first time I saw the trailer at the movies. It caught my attention right away. Maybe because it had a female lead or maybe it was the bow and arrow, I am not sure yet. But I can tell you it is a must see movie for the whole family. I had the great pleasure of going to the early screening for Brave with my daughter. And we both enjoyed it very much.
Back on the Coupon Wagon
So after a few months I have decided to get back to couponing again. Mostly due to the nagging of my Dear Daughter Vega that kept telling me "if you used coupons it would be less". She is only 7 but I taught her well. I took a break from it all because it got to be way to much for me and with a four year old in tow it was more of a chore than anything else. But now I am ready to start again. Kids are out of school and eating me out of house and home!
I set up my binder using clear card protectors and very colorful divider tabs. I printed out a cover for my binder to remind me why I am doing this (besides not wanting to pay full price) so that I stay motivated. I decided to decorate my binder a little because I want it to be fun this time. With all the kids going to school this coming school year I will have more than enough time to get my deals done before they get home. This means I can take my time and pay close attention so that I do not go over my budget.
So today was my first trip with coupons again and I think I did pretty well. I went to Homeland which doubles up to and including $1.00 coupons. Unfortunately I can only double one like coupon a day so I have to do many trips through out the week. Here are my findings for the trip:
- Fast Fixin Dino Nuggets $3.99 used $1/1 coupon that doubled making it = $1.99
- Yakisoba noodles $1.00 used $.50/1 coupon that doubled making it = FREE
- Dannon Oikos Yogurt .69 ea used $1/5 coupon that doubled making them = .29 ea
- Lipton 1 gallon tea $2.99 used .55/1 coupon that doubled making it = $1.89
- Bounty Napkins 50pk $1.29 used .50/1 coupon that doubled making them .29
- Gain dish washing detergent $1.99 used .50/1 coupon that doubled making it = .99
It was not a big trip as you can see but was enough to make me smile and motivate me to continue down this path. I paid $7.54 ($.93 tax) and save $12.75 or 65%. I will be going back again to get more yogurt since it is one of the few things that I can eat in the early morning that will not make me nauseous. And before you ask no I am not preggers! I am just not a breakfast person. Just give me some coffee and I am good till after 10am. I wish I had more of the Fast Fixin coupons. That price is great to stock up on and literally a quick dinner when you need it. I will also be getting more napkins and yakisoba noodles.
One thing I CAN promise you is I will not go crazy and have 10 years worth of toilet paper! If you donate items perfect. Come tax time you will be golden. But if you don't, keep in mind that sales come every three months so don't sacrifice all that room in your house for years worth of stuff you really don't need. I can understand having even a year worth of items in case of emergency but seriously 10 years worth? No thanks!
Anyways. How much are you spending on groceries? Have you decided to use coupons yet?
Vegetable Garden
I have been planting a vegetable garden for 4-5 years now. But this year while struggling with getting the plants to grow and establish themselves seems to be my best year yet. I have managed to constantly harvest herbs, zucchini and squash every week. I was contemplating for a bit pulling out my cucumber plants since they were not producing anything and taking over everything. Just this past weekend when I was getting ready to pull them up I saw my very first cucumber. Today I saw a few more. I guess the weather was not ideal.
My favorite plants have to be the cherry tomatoes. They are growing like weeds right now. I see over 2 dozen cherry tomatoes and have for almost two months! But today I finally see the first signs of them ripening. About damn time! I am about the most impatient person you will ever meet. I have a very hard time waiting on anything. But I am very excited and looking forward to savoring each one! My jet star and beef steak tomatoes are still growing but soon they will be part of the menu.
I have also decided to try my hand at eggplants this year. I only planted one plant and it finally began to produce. I have never seen an eggplant grow and it is very cool. I am looking forward to making eggplant Parmesan and eggplant lasagna. Not to mention all the other great recipes out there. I will keep everyone posted on the progress. I have plans to expand my garden in order to have a fall crop. Not exactly sure how I will get it done yet. Wish me luck!

Yard: Work in Progress
Well it is big trash day next week and I will be getting rid of a lot of stuff. I am tired of having all this storage space full of trash. I need to organize better and decided to start with the closets and kids rooms. While doing so we are also doing a bit of yard work in order to finally get some grass growing. Today I spent all morning with the kids picking up leaves that had been neglected since fall. Honestly it has been neglected for a couple of falls now. I will admit to liking the dark dirt I uncovered underneath it all. There is still plenty to pick up but enough for today. Three big trash bags full out on the curb with a few bundles of twigs and some bigger pieces of wood.

Here you can see we tried to tackle the task of taking down a play house built by the previous owners. I left it up for six years not but the kids have never liked playing in it. For a while I had our previous dogs set up in there with blankets and dog kennels. It has been sitting empty full of leaves, bugs and trash for two years now and I just want it gone. There is a concrete slab under it that I want to use for my compost drum/bin thing. Where it is now the sun does not heat it up enough. Knocking it down is also going to open up the yard a lot.
Once we are done getting rid of the play house, leaves and branches the yard will look so much better. I am also going to be putting down some EZ seeds from Scott. There is hardly any grass in the back yard right now and i need to fix that. You would think that after six years we would have gotten around to it but nope. It is time to change that too. I will keep you all posted of my progress.

Deadly Ties: A Novel- Review
Deadly Ties is book two in her Crossroads Crisis Center series. I have not read Forget Me Not and plan to do so soon. You may appreciate this story better if you've read them both. It is still a good book even if you haven't.
There
are some really good characters in this story. Lisa Harper had a
difficult childhood. Now she's all grown up and now she's strong and has started spending
her time at the women's crisis center. But what she really wants to do is be able to
help her Mother. She has yet to find out how much danger she is really in.
I would recommend this book to anyone! It's well written, with action, danger, intense suspense, romance, and a wonderful message. You'll be hooked from the very start and it will keep you turning the pages until the very end. It's complex and intelligent. The characters and the story are both engaging. I wouldn't mind seeing more books set at the Crossroads Crisis Center.

Back to School with Avery Products
I know summer just started and we really do not want to talk about Back to School but if you are like me with FOUR kids going to school next year it is never to early to start. Besides you can find great deals on quality products if you keep your eyes open. I like to do my shopping all summer getting a few things here and there until the list is all scratched off. I also like to get good quality products that will last. Binders being one of those things! So for this review I actually let my four year old play with the binder. He stomped on it, threw it down the stairs, made a roof for his house, you get the idea. For a whole week and the ONLY visible damage was slight clear "scratches" on the outside pockets.
A few of the features I think are pretty great about the Heavy Duty One Touch EZD binders it you can literally open them with just one hand! This has always been an issue for me even as an adult. These binders are so easy to open even my younger two can do it without help. I find this to be the best feature of all because our elementary school requires these binders as part of their school supply list. Another neat feature is the two different pockets on each side to put papers. The pockets extend to the centerfold of the binder which I think is perfect to put pens or mechanical pencils on.
How cool is that! Not only will these binders stand up to wear and tear better than other bargain brands I have tried (yes, my kids have destroyed binders in a few weeks), these binders also help keep them organized by providing more than adequate storage for important papers. Maybe I will get lucky and my kids will stop losing them.
Avery Dennison has other school items that are sure to be on any school list you come across. Like Hi-liters for example. One thing that I look for in these is brightness. I hate buying a highlighter and the color is dull, dark and blocks part of the words I highlight. After all the purpose it to make the note POP! Here is what Avery Hi-liters look like.
You can still read the words without smearing. Also the tips stay clean! I am not sure if you noticed after using a highlighter the tips usually turn the color of whatever you highlighted.
And who doesn't use glue? Their GlueStic is non-toxic, washable (it is true! I tried it.) and Acid-FREE! So for you scrapbook enthusiasts they are perfect for pictures. And for you Moms out there no need to worry about the kids ruining their clothes.
Oh and I save the best for last. At least for me it is the best. They have See-through Sticky Notes! You read right. They have see-through sticky notes that allows you to see what is written underneath without having to lift the note. I am in love with them!
I know that for most it is not part of the school list but as a Mom you want to help your children with homework or just stick a loving message on a book. These are perfect for that. They are available in yellow and pink. Here is a video demo.
Avery is also coming out with a new line of binders called "Student Tuff". They have not yet been release but should be available nation wide at stores like Staples, Target, Walmart and Office Max. I am not sure of the date yet. If you do not already know Avery products also come with Box Tops for Education! Keep your eyes open so you do not accidentally throw them away.
Also - the third annual Avery Give Back to Schools promotion is live until September 14th. Schools with grade K-8 country are eligible to
win! Avery's giving away more than ever this year: 500,000 Box Tops,
$50,000 in Avery school supplies and office
products, and $5,000 in gift cards to teachers! All you have to do is
vote for your school daily, and spread the word! You can sign up and register you school at avery.com/giveback
And now for the giveaway. Avery Dennison has graciously agreed to give one of my lucky readers a Back to School pack of their own! A $40 value! Enter using Rafflecoptor below.
Noxicare Natural Pain Relief Cream - Review
I know that many of you suffer from aches and pain on a daily basis just like I do. And I also know that many of you also do not like to be taking medication all the time. I know I don't. I have been living with pain for almost ten years now and it seems that nothing I do or take works. Then I tried Noxicare. It's an all natural pain relief cream that contains some of the most powerful natural pain relievers such as turmeric, ginger, willow bark and more.
In the past two weeks since I started to use Noxicare I took my pain medication only once. All you have to do is apply it to the desired area two or three times a day and that is it. It requires no prescription and currently has no known side effects. Another good thing about Noxicare is it also helps reduce inflammation. I can use it for pretty much any ache or pain I have. And believe me I have plenty.
My biggest concern being my lower back and hip from an injury sustained in the military. While I am not going to say that the pain is gone completely (disc issues) I can say that it makes it very manageable and I can do more than I used to. I have been able to work in the garden, organize closets and the garage. The cream is non greasy and virtually odorless. So you don't have to worry about smelling like a medicine cabinet.
All in all if you are in constant pain this is definitely worth trying. Natural pain relievers are always better on your body than synthetic pills and such. You can find more information on their website at http://www.noxicare.com/. You can also connect to them on Facebook and Twitter.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free to try and give my honest opinion. I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Disney/Pixar's BRAVE - "Witch Away"
I can't wait to go see this new Disney/Pixar Movie! I just love the previews.
Sleepers By Megg Jensen
Sleepers is Book One in The Swarm Trilogy. A very good book for the 12 to 16 age bracket my opinion. I have always been very fond of stories surrounded by magic and this book had just enough to keep me interested. I could not put the book down and finished it in 2 days.
The three main characters of this book are Lianne, Kellan and Bryden. All three are adopted from another land. Given to the Fithians as an act of good faith by the Dalagan's. The twists and turns in this book are great! When I thought I knew what was going to happen a new twist was added.
I do feel that that end was a bit rushed. A few more details and a little bit more building up towards revealing the end would have been good. But overall she did a good job. I look forward to reading the other two books in this trilogy. The best part is this book is currently FREE for Kindle.
